Antique in Santorini

I’ve always been fascinated by this period of history that was antiquity. In addition to the creation of writing in Egypt, it’s also one of the moments when fashion began to interfere in the daily lives of the people. Even today, there is still an incalculable number of garments inspired by the Greco-Roman and Egyptian “fashion” trends of the time.

To pay a tribute to a part of the history of fashion, I took advantage of my visit in Santorini to gift myself with an asymmetrical and draped locally made dress, reminiscent of the codes of that time. I don’t have a “total look” because it wasn’t planned: pure improvisation. If I could, I would have added a pair of golden spartans shoes and a high-arm bracelet. But I didn’t want to fall into the bad taste and have a disguise effect.

How about you, what is the period of history that you prefer the most in terms of fashion ?

But how did I ended in New York ?

Everything started with my unconventional career path: I choose, yes, me, a girl, to work in IT. (10 years in the IT Storage world). Yes, I think we can say that I’m a Geek. Even a Nerd. I did get strokes of luck, one after the other and I went to Boston for two months for a training thanks to my first job. Ok, I did work hard for all my certifications, and also to get my driving license, because a woman doing this job without even being capable of driving a car was making people gossip a lot about me.

So, I had to work hard, and my efforts have been visible. In a few years and some tiny job’s evolution here and there, I was part of the week end team. Unfortunately, too many reorganizations sabotaged the balance of the company, and I ended up being automatically designated to leave the team to back working regular hours. I wasn’t having it.

My husband and I were already talking about moving abroad, to Toronto precisely. The announcement of my demotion was followed by the announcement of a redundancy plan for the company.I sought the help of a counselor who coached me to write a project (a concrete business plan, thank you Delphine), and thus be the one who would be fired with a nice severance bonus. And it worked! I was chosen one. And by the way, I thank my manager of the time who had done everything to support me. Now you’re probably wondering what I put into my project? My options were to set up a business to facilitate the access of plus size clothing of leading brands in France, get educated regarding entrepreneurship with the University of Toronto, start an MBA program or go abroad to start a fashion program.

Finally, through a combination of circumstances, the last option has been the successful one. I am currently receiving a training from a French school in order to obtain a diploma (master degree level) in the fashion world. I’m also improving my English in a language center!

Career Suiting & Denim Ashley Stewart Press Preview

I’m a huge Ashley Stewart fan ! I discovered this brand during my second trip to New York. At first, I wasn’t interested, I did not even want to get in the shop. But eventually I had a glance, and I immediately got captivated ! Since, it’s one of my favorite place to go shopping.

The press day was about the launch of two new collection. The first one is about denim with many style and varied cuts. The second focuses on perfect suits for working girls or for any professional rendez-vous.

Those new jeans are great ! What I love : the difference colours, the destructed parts with inner lining which allows to wear those denim no matter the occasion.

The career suit collection contains nice pieces such as vest, pants and skirt that can be matched. I love that kaki pants with the lace-up detail on the side.

We were lucky to see some looks thanks to a live small fashion show.

I think that the initiative from Ashley Stewart to launch a new career collection is a good news for women having issues to find elegant suits at their size for affordable prices ! I’m waiting impatiently for those denim to be available for I can grab one or two 🙂

White Party

I’m currently in New York to attend to the Full Figured Fashion Week. This event is similar to the Oscars of the plus size industry. It has been created 9 years ago and keeps on growing regarding activities organised during the week. One of the key events is the “Curves at Sea All White Boat Cruise”. It’s dance night on a boat where all the attendees have to wear white. The sponsoring brands take advantage of the night to showcase an insight of their current collection. It’s really one of the night you don’t want to miss if you’re there and I’ll explain why in this post.

When your shape doesn’t fit beauty standards, we tend to deprive ourselves from trying some trends like crop tops, short skirts, see-through pieces… This night is a safe space where you can express yourself freely. Whatever your curves, your complex and your outfit, NOBODY will judge you !

Sometimes we blame communities for not supporting each other. I think that attending to this party is a way to make a contribution. You will meet models, photographers, bloggers, influencers and professional activist for this community. It’s a perfect way to meet people and especially to have fun together.

For this occasion I decided to wear a white dress from ELOQUII. I’m a fan of this brand, I think it dresses curves to perfection. When I buy a piece from them, I feel like it’s made to measure to fit me! The fabrics they use are excellent quality and they often carry special offer!

The white colour is very infamous towards larger women. It has been accused of highlighting all the flaws for years. Personally, I’ve always loved white: I think that colour makes any pieces elegant. I wear it a little due to a lack of occasion.

I sincerely think that white suites everybody. It’s bright and it’s often what’s catching the eye of others. Unlike common preconception, it doesn’t necessarily emphasis every defects that we’d like to hide…
What is your relationship with white ? I am curious ! Do you wear this colour easily ?
